Cross-Promote via Social Media

Social networking sites, like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube aren’t the main places you’ll primarily channel traffic. However social networking sites do enable you to connect to various target audiences.

Let’s take Twitter for example. Twitter is a free that allows users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are delivered to the user’s subscribers who are known as followers.

So how do I get Twitter to work for me?

As designers, we at Taliana Design use Twitter to not only promote our work, services and upcoming events but it also allows us to receive regular updates from fellow designers, and other tweets/tweeters of interest. As well as work related tweets, post tweets of comical value, inspirational sites, quotes to live by. Remember the look of your Twitter page is just as important as the tweets themselves. Transfer your existing branding colours to your Twitter page colour scheme. Create a custom background in Photoshop including your branding and relevant imagery. Add your web URL to your background image and if you’re willing, your email address. You’re not only reinforcing your brand, you’re creating a sense of familiarity.

Isn’t one Social Media site enough?
Consistent interactivity across various social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube allows you to gain personality, whether it’s by the content you provide or the feedback you receive. Gaining a social personality also allows people to become more supportive of your company, services, or product. Cross-promotion is the key, advertise an upcoming event on Twitter but also advertise the same event on your Facebook page – you’re targeting two audiences at once! Cross-promoting also makes you more accessible, for example one of your friends on Facebook can tell one of their friends to follow you on Twitter and vice versa.

How do I get found on Social Media sites?
Well that one is easier than you think; cross-promote! On your website, add links to your social media sites – you can even add your latest tweets to your website! Add your website link to your Twitter profile, and as previously mentioned to your custom Twitter background. With Facebook, you can add your website link as well as all the links to all your social media sites. There is nothing wrong with shameless plugging, just make sure you don’t spam!

In order to avoid social death it’s most important not be self-indulgent – give a little back. Retweet things you find interesting, promote others, comment or post on other people’s walls, share links and share knowledge. Above all things, thank those that promote you, show you encouragement or show interest in your business.
